How to Screen in a Balcony

Bravo Screens can be a fantastic addition to a balcony screen.

Does a screen balcony add value?
Yes it does. Just ask any Homeowner that spends any time outdoors and you will quickly find out how valuable a screen room is to own.

What is a good size for a patio screen room?
A general rule it that the depth should be no less than 10 feet and a width should be no shorter than 12 feet. A patio screen room can be built to any size but if it is smaller than 10’x12′ then there really isnt much functional space.

Are you feeling excited about how to screen in a balcony? Are you exasperated by elements in it such as bugs, harsh light and uncomfortable wind? Our customized screened-in balcony enclosures with retractable awning top will bring everything to your satisfaction.

Closed balcony doors are unlikely to block fresh air, but the roll-down shades will divert much of the rain. Also, thanks to the screens, the awning, and the soffit, you do not have to endure pesky insects.

To protect our view of the open lawn, we built our rooftop high enough to shield the sliding doors. Amid the summer, the balcony top casts much of the bright sunlight and prevents much sunlight from coming into the house. And that’s the main reason why we built this project: It’s incredibly easy to remove the awning only during wintertime and let the sunlight come in. The frame is designed to look great with the awning off.

How To Screen in a Balcony 1-2

Step 1: How to Screen in a Balcony
When you decide to begin a project, be sure to first contact your local building inspector. Your town’s regulations may impose additional requirements for a structure like this, and might also require a building permit and inspection.

Step 2
Set up the screens after the structure is finished. Purchase custom screens for the wall and the door, or make your very own. If you live in the Sun Belt, consider adding a sun-blocking screening material (available from Bravo Screens).

Step 3
To successfully remove your screen’s frame, place it on a flat surface for each table and remove any existing spline and the torn screen. Tape the outside edges of the frame to the table, being careful not to put tape over the spline groove.

Step 4
Unroll the 36” x 84” (91.4 x 213.4 cm) roll of screen over the frame. Lay screen fabric over frame, align squarely and overlap 1/2” (1.3 cm) on all sides.
Using the spline roller tool, begin adhering the screen fabric to the frame with the spline by rolling the fabric into the screen frame groove. Be sure to hold the fabric straight while rolling.

Step 5
Insert the spline into the frame so that it’s firmly fixed in the four corners. You will need to use a screwdriver or utility knife to push the spline into each corner.

Step 6
Use your utility knife to trim any excess spline or screen from the edge of the frame. Concentrate your cuts on the outer edge of the spline groove, as these help you to avoid damage to newly-installed screen fabric.
